Loews Coronado Bay is the property we recommend most often to couples who want Coronado without the crowds, and Julianne and David’s wedding is the reason why. The resort sits on its own peninsula with the bay on every side, which means a ceremony at the water’s edge, a reception a short walk away, and a guest list that never has to get in a car. We planned the wedding, designed it, built the florals, styled the tables, and supplied the rentals as one team.
Julianne and David
What they wanted was modern and coastal: clean lines, water in every photograph, and a palette that felt like the bay at the end of the day. Before any of it, there was a quiet half hour in the suite, Julianne reading a letter from David with her bouquet in her other hand. We build that half hour into every timeline on purpose. It is the last still moment of the day, and the photographs from it are usually the ones the couple keeps closest.
The Pointe
The ceremony was on The Pointe, the lawn at the tip of the peninsula with the gazebo and the bay behind it. We built a white-draped arch and dressed its posts with lavender and white roses, purple stock, and pale blue delphinium, so the flowers carried the palette without blocking the water. We set the ceremony early enough in the afternoon that the light came across the bay rather than into the guests’ eyes, and the breeze off the water was part of the design rather than a surprise: weighted drapes, florals wired to the frame, and a hair plan that assumed wind.
The palette
Purples and blues, light purple leading: lavender roses and white roses at the center of every bouquet, white calla lilies for a clean line in Julianne’s, blue hydrangea and delphinium for the cool note, purple stock for depth, and lilac sweet peas in the details. The bridesmaids wore dusty blue, which turned the bouquets into the brightest thing in every frame. The flower girl wore a crown of white spray roses and baby’s breath; David’s boutonniere was a single lavender rose against a white calla, and the mothers’ corsages were tied in dove-grey silk so they read with the bridesmaids rather than against them. Julianne wore a birdcage veil and a red lip with a halter gown, and against that much soft color, the red was the detail that made the look modern rather than pastel.
The Bay Terrace
The reception moved to the Bay Terrace, overlooking the marina. The tables went brighter than the ceremony on purpose. Fuchsia phalaenopsis orchids ran along the centerpieces beside white stock and white roses, with hand-lettered acrylic table numbers and votive candles. The orchids are the design decision couples would not have made on their own: after a ceremony in lavender and blue, a hot pink at the table is what keeps the evening from fading into the same four colors the whole night. The tabletop, the acrylic numbers, the votives, and the linens came from Bella Mia’s own rental collection.
The moment that mattered
Outdoor music at Loews stops at 10 PM under city guidelines. Every couple who marries here hears that in the first meeting, and most of them hear it as a limit. We plan it as a shape. Julianne and David’s timeline was built backwards from ten: ceremony on The Pointe, cocktail hour as the light went, dinner and toasts on the Bay Terrace while the bay went dark behind the tables, then the dancing where the music could keep going. Nobody in the room felt a cutoff. They felt an evening with a beginning, a middle, and an end, which is what a wedding timeline is supposed to be.
