A Coastal Garden Wedding at Park Hyatt Aviara

A coastal garden wedding, relaxed in feeling and exact in execution

Park Hyatt Aviara sits above the Batiquitos Lagoon in Carlsbad, and it is one of the few North County resorts where the ceremony courtyard, the gardens, and the ocean air all belong to the same design language. Erica and Patrick wanted a day that felt outdoors from the first note to the last dance, and Aviara let them have it without ever moving indoors. We planned the wedding, designed it, and built the florals as one team.

We first met Erica and Patrick as guests. They were at another wedding we planned, and what stayed with them was the attention to detail: the way the timeline held, the way the small things were already handled before anyone noticed them. When it was their turn, they reached out and asked for the same care on their own day. What they wanted was simple to say and hard to do well: a coastal garden wedding, relaxed in feeling, exact in execution.

The ceremony was held in the Palm Court, where the palms frame the aisle and the light in the late afternoon does most of the work for you. The reception moved to the Gardens, so guests never left the outdoors and the evening kept the same soft, open feeling the ceremony started with. For a couple who wanted the day to feel like one continuous celebration rather than two events stitched together, the walk from the Palm Court to the Gardens is about as good as it gets in North County.

The palette was shades of pink, white, and green: soft pinks and whites in the blooms, layered greens carrying the garden setting through every arrangement. In the Palm Court the florals framed the ceremony without competing with the palms. In the Gardens the tablescapes picked up the same pinks and whites at eye level, with greenery running the length of the tables so the reception read as part of the landscape rather than something placed on top of it. Because Bella Mia handled both the planning and the floral design, the ceremony and reception were built as one continuous look rather than two vendors’ interpretations of a mood board.

Patrick is a musician. During the reception he picked up his instrument and played a couple of songs for the room, and then one more: a song he had written for Erica. The band stepped back, the Gardens went quiet, and for a few minutes the whole wedding was just the two of them. It is the kind of moment you cannot plan, but you can plan around it. We built the timeline so that when it came, nothing else was competing for the room’s attention.
